STATEMENT
This bill amends the annual appropriations act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 to provide that the maximum cash assistance benefit levels provided to Work First New Jersey (WFNJ) recipients in FY 2019 must be 10 percent per month greater than the cash assistance levels in effect in State FY 2018. Currently, the annual appropriations act for FY 2019 provides that the maximum benefit levels must be increased by $10 per month greater than the assistance levels in effect in State FY 2018.
WFNJ includes the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program, which assists families with dependent children, and General Assistance, which assists adults without dependent children, to alleviate the negative effects of poverty. Currently, New Jersey's maximum benefit amount for WFNJ recipient households is $424 per month for a family of three. The bill increases this amount to $466 in FY 2019. Similar increases would apply to households of different sizes.
