SYNOPSIS
Requires health insurance carriers to provide notice of termination of coverage to covered persons in certain circumstances.

An Act concerning certain health benefits plans and supplementing P.L.1997, c.192 (C.26:2S-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. A carrier which offers a health benefits plan to residents of this State shall provide a notice to a covered person under the plan if, for any reason, the carrier receives notice from the subscriber to the plan that the subscriber is terminating coverage with respect to that covered person.
b. The notice required by this section shall inform the covered person that the subscriber has terminated coverage for the covered person. The notice shall be provided within seven days of receiving the notice from the subscriber, and shall be accomplished by regular mail, electronic mail, or telephone to the covered person, based on information provided by the subscriber and on record with the carrier.
2. This act shall take effect on the 90th day next following enactment and apply to health benefits plans issued, delivered, executed, or renewed on or after the effective date.
STATEMENT
This bill requires carriers that offer health benefits plans to residents of this State to provide a notice to covered persons under the plan if, for any reason, the carrier receives notice from the subscriber to the plan that the subscriber is terminating coverage with respect to that covered person.
