Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1. Section 1 of P.L.1981, c.382 (C.37:1‑12.1) is amended to read as follows:

STATEMENT

This bill amends N.J.S.A.37:1-12.1 to require licensing officers issuing marriage licenses to collect an additional fee of $22 from applicants for a marriage license for the purpose of providing grants to programs for displaced homemakers pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A.52:27D-43.24b.

Currently, a supplementary fee of $25 is collected from marriage license applicants and forwarded to the Department of Human Services for the purpose of establishing and maintaining shelters for victims of domestic violence.

The additional fee of $22 shall increase the total cost of a marriage license from $28 (a base fee of $3 and the $25 fee dedicated to domestic violence shelters), to $50.
