SYNOPSIS
Eliminates applicable court costs in certain medical event-related motor vehicle accidents.

An Act concerning waiver of court costs in certain instances and supplementing chapter 3 of Title 22A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any person who has had charges arising out of a motor vehicle accident dismissed on the grounds that the proximate cause of the accident was an unforeseeable medical event, shall not be held responsible for any court costs set forth in N.J.S.22A:3-4.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
N.J.S.22A:3-4 enumerates the fees allowable for court costs in criminal proceedings. Specifically, for violations of Title 39 or traffic ordinances, the statute provides for court costs of up to, but not exceeding, $33, at the discretion of the court.
This bill provides that, notwithstanding any other provision of law, any person who has had charges arising out of a motor vehicle accident dismissed on the grounds that the proximate cause of the accident was an unforeseeable medical event shall not be held responsible for any court costs.
