     Requires Dept. of Agriculture and DEP to work with US Army Corps of Engineers to establish joint permit application process for aquaculture projects.

An Act concerning State and federal permits for aquaculture projects, and supplementing P.L.1997, c.236 (C.4:27-1 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The Secretary of Agriculture and the Commissioner of Environmental Protection shall seek to establish with the United States Army Corps of Engineers a joint application process for aquaculture projects that require both State and federal permits, licenses, or approvals to facilitate approvals for aquaculture projects in the State.  Each year for the first three years after the date of enactment of P.L.     , c.    (C.    ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill), the Secretary of Agriculture shall prepare and submit, pursuant to section 2 of P.L.1991, c.164 (C.52:14-19.1), to the Legislature a report on the progress made toward establishing and implementing this cooperative effort.

 

     2.  This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Secretary of Agriculture and the Commissioner of Environmental Protection to seek to establish with the United States Army Corps of Engineers a joint application process for aquaculture projects that require both State and federal permits, licenses, or approvals to facilitate approvals for aquaculture projects in the State.  The bill also provides that for each year for the first three years after the date of enactment of this bill into law, the Secretary of Agriculture is required to prepare and submit to the Legislature a report on the progress made toward establishing and implementing this cooperative effort.
