SYNOPSIS
Requires school buses to be equipped with flashing white strobe light.

An Act concerning school bus lights and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Each school bus as defined in R.S.39:1-1 shall be equipped with a flashing white strobe light on the roof of the school bus. The flashing white strobe light shall be activated at all times while the school bus is in operation, including when the school bus is stopped to receive or discharge passengers. The Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission may establish requirements for the installation and use of a flashing white strobe light equipped on a school bus pursuant to this section.
2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall be applicable to school buses manufactured on or after the 180th day following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill requires all school buses manufactured on or after the 180th day following enactment of the bill to be equipped with a flashing white strobe light on the roof of the school bus. The bill requires the strobe light to be activated at all times while the school bus is in operation, including when the school bus is stopped to receive or discharge passengers. Under current law, a flashing strobe light may be installed, but is not required to be installed, on the roof of a school bus.
