SYNOPSIS
Requires distribution of policy regarding use of sedation by veterinarian prior to euthanization of animal.

An Act concerning sedation used by veterinarians in certain circumstances and supplementing P.L.2015, c.110 (C.45:16-8.3).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. An animal or veterinary facility shall distribute to the individual bringing an animal to the facility for treatment a paper copy of the policy at the facility regarding the use of sedation prior to the euthanization of an animal as part of the documentation issued to individuals when seeking treatment for an animal at the facility if euthanization is considered as a possible course of treatment for the animal.
b. If the documentation noted in subsection a. of this section is managed in an electronic format, the policy or a link to the policy of the facility regarding the use of sedation prior to the euthanization of an animal shall be posted, in a clear and conspicuous manner, as part of the electronic documentation accessible to the animal owner.
2. This act shall take effect on the first day of the seventh month next following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill requires an animal or veterinary facility to distribute to the individual bringing an animal to the facility for treatment a paper copy of the policy at the facility regarding the use of sedation prior to the euthanization of an animal as part of the documentation issued to individuals when seeking treatment for an animal at the facility if euthanization is considered as a possible course of treatment for the animal. If the documentation is managed in an electronic format, the policy or a link to the policy of the facility regarding the use of sedation prior to the euthanization of an animal is to be posted, in a clear and conspicuous manner, as part of the electronic documentation accessible to the animal owner.
