STATEMENT
This bill would provide, for Fiscal Year 2021, a supplemental appropriation of $200,000 from the Unclaimed Property Trust Fund to the Department of Agriculture to increase funding for the Jersey Fresh program.
The Jersey Fresh program is an advertising, promotional, and quality grading program launched in 1984 to help farmers inform consumers about the availability and variety of fruits and vegetables grown in New Jersey, and later expanded to include seafood, landscape plants, and other agricultural products. This supplemental appropriation is in response to Resolution No. 9 approved at the 105th State Agricultural Convention, held in February 2020. The resolution expressed strong support for the Jersey Fresh program and urged the Legislature to increase the funding for the program in fiscal year 2021.
