SYNOPSIS
Designates third Sunday in November as "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims."
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
A Joint Resolution designating the third Sunday in November as "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims."
Whereas, The third Sunday in November is globally recognized as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims to remember the millions of people who have been killed on the world's roads as well as to recognize the millions who have survived but suffered serious injuries; and
Whereas, Road traffic deaths and injuries are particularly difficult for the family of victims due to the suddenness and violence associated with such deaths and injuries, typically leaving the family and friends of victims traumatized; and
Whereas, In New Jersey, the most densely populated state in the country, raising awareness about traffic safety and alerting the State's residents about the devastation that is caused by road traffic deaths and injuries is critically important to the public welfare and helps to ease some of the anguish felt by the families and friends of victims; and
Whereas, Candlelight vigils, educational seminars, moments of silence, and other events are held around the world on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims to memorialize the victims of road traffic incidents; and
Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for the State of New Jersey to join the rest of the world by designating the third Sunday in November as "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims"; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The third Sunday in November of each year shall be "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims." The Governor may annually issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and citizens of this State to observe this day with appropriate activities and programs to remember and recognize the victims of road traffic incidents and to increase public awareness about road traffic incidents and the devastation caused by such incidents.
2. This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This joint resolution designates the third Sunday in November of each year as "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims."
