Designates October 12 of each year as "Jump4Jerry Day" in New Jersey.

A Joint Resolution designating October 12 of each year as "Jump4Jerry Day" in New Jersey.
Whereas, Jump4Jerry is a nonprofit youth development organization founded in memory of Jeremiah "Prince Bee" Grant, a pillar of his community and a champion Double Dutch jumper whose life was tragically cut short in October 2017 at the young age of 8 years old when he was struck and killed by a car; and
Whereas, At the age of 5, Jeremiah, also known as Jerry, started jumping rope and became a founding member of the Jersey City's Honey Bees Double Dutch team; and
Whereas, Despite his youth and shy nature, Jerry found a release through athletic competition, reflected in his achievements as a champion Double Dutch jumper, highlighted by a performance on the Jimmy Fallon TV show; and
Whereas, When he was in the first grade he competed in a division called unattached, where he dominated the sport, ranking first place in every competition, becoming undefeated, and becoming known worldwide for being undefeated in the division; and
Whereas, As a pillar of his community, Jerry received numerous awards for his outstanding community service, participating in numerous projects where he would empower the youth and families within the community to utilize their gifts, skills, and talents; and
Whereas, Jerry also volunteered his time and skill by participating in various parades, marches, and fitness and health fairs, encouraging adults and children to become fit through the sport of Double Dutch; and
Whereas, Through the sport itself, people can learn skills like enhanced coordination, building stamina, and improved concentration, along with teamwork, sportsmanship, making friends and building social skills; and
Whereas, Jerry had a passion and joy for serving his community and jumping rope, and Jump4Jerry was created to carry on his passion and commitment, and ensure his memory lives on; and
Whereas, The mission of Jump4Jerry is to honor Jerry by enabling children of different ages and backgrounds to acquire life skills, build confidence and strong character, and to realize their potential as leaders and active members of their community; and
Whereas, On June 2, 2018, Jerry was posthumously inducted into the Trailblazer Wall of Fame at the Mary McLeod Bethune Center in Jersey City, New Jersey; and
Whereas,
It is altogether fitting and proper for the Legislature and this State to
designate October 12 of each year as "Jump4Jerry Day" to recognize the
contributions of Jeremiah "Jerry" Taron Grant; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. October 12 of each year is designated as "Jump4Jerry Day" in this State, in recognition of the short, but exceptional life and community activism of Jeremiah "Jerry" "Prince Bee" Grant.
2. The Governor is respectfully requested to annually issue a proclamation calling upon officials and citizens of the State to observe "Jump4Jerry Day" with appropriate activities and programs.
3. This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This joint resolution designates October 12 of each year as "Jump4JerryDay" in New Jersey.
Jump4Jerry is a nonprofit youth development organization founded in memory of Jeremiah "Prince Bee" Grant. Jeremiah, also known as Jerry, was a pillar of his community and a championship Double Dutch jumper. His life was tragically cut short in October 2017 at the young age of 8 years old when he was struck and killed by a car.
Although Jerry was only 8 years old, he did outstanding work in and out of his community that gave him a sense of pride and made him realize his potential. He was a champion jumper who left his mark on the world of Double Dutch, highlighted by a performance on the Jimmy Fallon TV show.
Jerry had a passion and joy for serving his community and jumping rope. Jump4Jerry was created to carry on his passion and commitment and ensure his memory lives on. The mission of Jump4Jerry is to honor Jerry by enabling children of different ages and backgrounds to acquire life skills, build confidence and strong character, and to realize their potential as leaders and active members of their community.
