Urges residents of New Jersey to shop locally and support local businesses and organizations.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
An Assembly Resolution urging the residents of New Jersey to shop locally and support local businesses and organizations.
Whereas, Local shops, businesses, and organizations are the backbone of towns and communities throughout New Jersey, providing valuable services for residents and visitors alike; and
Whereas, When residents spend money in local businesses, that money tends to stay in the community, enriching it in a variety of ways; and
Whereas, Local businesses return revenue back into the local community, further supporting the enrichment of New Jersey's towns, cities, and municipalities, to a much greater extent than money spent online; and
Whereas, Local support for businesses creates jobs, makes communities more attractive, increases tourism, and helps fund valuable services and investments in our communities; and
Whereas, While New Jersey residents are encouraged to spend money and provide support to all our local shops, businesses, and organizations, residents are particularly encouraged to support and patronize the independently owned, brick and mortar businesses in our communities; and
Whereas, It is estimated that for every $100 spent in locally owned, independent stores, $68 of that money stays in the local community, through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures; and
Whereas, By shopping at locally owned, independent stores, the residents of New Jersey can help to revitalize our communities, and make a positive impact throughout our State; and
Whereas, The importance of shopping locally and at independent stores is especially great as we enter the holiday season, a time of year particularly relied on by these businesses; and
Whereas, During this season, New Jersey residents can make the largest impact by spending money in local businesses, where the benefits of that money will continue to work for good causes in our local communities; and
Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for the General Assembly to encourage the residents of New Jersey to support local shops, businesses, and organizations, including independently owned shops, businesses, and organizations, during the holiday season and the rest of year; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The General Assembly
encourages the residents of New Jersey to support local shops, businesses, and
organizations, including independently owned shops, businesses, and
organizations, during the holiday season and the rest of year.
2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and the New Jersey League of Municipalities.
STATEMENT
This resolution urges the residents of New Jersey to shop locally and support local shops, businesses, and organizations, including independently owned shops, businesses, and organizations, during the holiday season and the rest of year.
Local shops, businesses, and organizations are the backbone of towns and communities throughout New Jersey, providing valuable services for residents and visitors alike. When residents spend money in local businesses, that money tends to stay in the community, enriching it in a variety of ways.
While New Jersey residents are encouraged to spend money and provide support to all our local shops, businesses, and organizations, they are particularly encouraged to support and patronize the independently owned, brick and mortar businesses, which return the most money of any businesses back into our communities. By shopping at locally owned, independent stores, the residents of New Jersey can help to revitalize our communities, and make a positive impact throughout our State.
