Urges the Departments of State and Education to sponsor a New Jersey History Bowl in 2014.

An Assembly Resolution urging the Departments of State and Education to sponsor a New Jersey History Bowl in 2014.
Whereas, History bowls promote education through a uniquely engaging and exciting format; and
Whereas, A New Jersey History Bowl would give teams of students from schools around the State an opportunity to compete in an academic competition that focuses on New Jersey history, literature, arts, architecture, geography, and culture; and
Whereas, A New Jersey History Bowl will promote an appreciation of New Jersey's rich history and culture and spotlight the many significant accomplishments of New Jerseyans both past and present; and
Whereas, New Jersey's public institutions of higher education are ideal hosts for the regional and State rounds of a New Jersey History Bowl, which should be jointly sponsored and organized by the New Jersey Departments of State and Education; and
Whereas, The year 2014 will mark the 350th anniversary of the colonization of New Jersey in 1664; and
Whereas, Holding a New Jersey History Bowl in 2014 is a fitting way to mark the State's anniversary and to celebrate the many contributions that the Garden State has made to the nation and the world; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House respectfully urges the Department of State and the Department of Education to jointly sponsor and organize a New Jersey History Bowl for high school students in 2014. New Jersey's public institutions of higher education are urged to host the regional and State rounds of the history bowl.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk of the General Assembly, shall be transmitted to the Lieutenant Governor, the Commissioner of Education, the Secretary of Higher Education, and each president of a public institution of higher education in the State.
STATEMENT
This resolution urges the Department of State and the Department of Education to jointly sponsor and organize a New Jersey History Bowl for high school students in 2014. New Jersey's public institutions of higher education are urged to host the regional and State rounds of the history bowl.
The year 2014 will mark the 350th anniversary of the colonization of New Jersey in 1664. Holding a New Jersey History Bowl in 2014 is a fitting way to mark the State's anniversary and to celebrate the many contributions that the Garden State has made to the nation and the world.
