SYNOPSIS
Urges Philadelphia Phillies to induct Dan Baker into Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame.

An Assembly Resolution urging the Philadelphia Phillies to induct Dan Baker into the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame.
Whereas, Dan Baker, born in 1946 in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey, and a graduate of Audubon High School and Glassboro State College, has dedicated 50 years to Philadelphia sports as of 2021; and
Whereas, Mr. Baker first developed his love for baseball as a child attending Philadelphia Phillies games with his father, and in 1972 at the age of 25, he became the public address announcer at Veterans Stadium and is currently the longest tenured public address announcer in Major League Baseball (MLB); and
Whereas, In addition to his work for the Phillies, Mr. Baker also served as the public address announcer for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL) between 1985 and 2014; and
Whereas, Mr. Baker has also been a public address announcer for five World Series', two MLB All Star Games, and three National Football Conference Championship Games; and
Whereas, Now 75 years old, Mr. Baker has been described as "one of the friendliest people to ever inhabit this planet" by the Philadelphia Inquirer, and is known for his work ethic, enthusiasm for baseball, and most notably, his voice; and
Whereas, 2020 was a particularly difficult year for Mr. Baker as in addition to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, he underwent treatment for cancer which impacted his voice and ability to do the job he loves; and
Whereas, Mr. Baker gracefully recovered and was back at the ballpark announcing again for the 2021 baseball season, officially marking his 49th season behind the microphone; and
Whereas, Mr. Baker plans to continue his tenure as a public address announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies for many years to come and, with 11 years to go, he hopes to set the record for most seasons as a public address announcer in baseball history; and
Whereas, Sixty-seven outstanding players and non-players, such as Michael Jack Schmidt and Paul "the Pope" Owens, have earned a place on the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame, and this House urges the recognition of Dan Baker and his years of dedication to the Phillies by honoring him with induction to the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House urges the
Philadelphia Phillies to induct Dan Baker into the Toyota Phillies Wall of
Fame.
2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the Philadelphia Phillies.
STATEMENT
This resolution urges the Philadelphia Phillies to induct Dan Baker into the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame. Mr. Baker, born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, developed a love for sports, specifically baseball, as a child attending Phillies games with his family. In 1972, at the age of 25, the Audubon High School and Glassboro State College graduate became the public address announcer at Veterans Stadium. Mr. Baker is currently the longest tenured public address announcer in Major League Baseball (MLB). In addition to working for the Phillies, he also served as a public address announcer for the National Football League's Philadelphia Eagles from 1985 to 2014, and for five World Series', two MLB All Star Games, and three National Football Conference Championship Games.
