SYNOPSIS
Prohibits department heads in Executive Branch from taking unpaid leave to assist any candidates for election to public office.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
An Act prohibiting certain activities by the heads of the principal departments of the Executive Branch and supplementing chapter 14 of Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, no individual who is the head of a principal department in the Executive Branch, nor the Secretary of Agriculture, the Commissioner of Education or the head of the New Jersey Commerce, Economic Growth and Tourism Commission, shall take a leave of absence without pay from that department or office to assist, in any way, the campaign of a candidate for election to a federal, State or local public office.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that no individual who is the head of a principal department in the Executive Branch , nor the Secretary of Agriculture, the Commissioner of Education or the head of the New Jersey Commerce, Economic Growth and Tourism Commission, can take a leave of absence without pay from that department or office to assist, in any way, the campaign of a candidate for election to a federal, State or local public office.
