SYNOPSIS

     Requires State institutions of higher education and associated hospitals or medical facilities to obtain legislative approval of any name change.

An Act concerning name changes for certain State institutions, and supplementing chapter 62 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, a public institution of higher education as set forth in N.J.S.18A:62-1 which seeks to change the name of the institution or the name of any hospital or medical facility operated by the institution, other than a change in name made in connection with the institution's attainment of university status, shall receive the approval of the Legislature prior to the adoption of the name change.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires public institutions of higher education to receive approval from the Legislature prior to any change in name. This requirement applies to both the name of the institution and the name of any hospital or medical facility operated by the institution.
