STATEMENT

Under current law, the Secretary of Higher Education is tasked with developing a comprehensive master plan that addresses Statewide planning for higher education, and the plan must be regularly revised and updated.  The most recent master plan, "New Jersey's Long-Range Plan for Higher Education: A Blueprint for Excellence," was adopted in 2003 and updated in 2005.  This bill directs the secretary to adopt a new plan within six months of the bill's effective date, and every seven years thereafter.

The bill includes numerous technical amendments to replace references in the law to the commission (referring to the Commission on Higher Education) to the Secretary of Higher Education.
