An Act concerning judicial salaries and amending N.J.S.2B:2-4.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. N.J.S.2B:2-4 is amended to read as follows:
2B:2-4. Judicial Salaries. [Annual salaries of justices and judges beginning on January 1, 2008 shall be:
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court $183,182
Associate Justice of the Supreme Court $176,488
Judge of the Superior Court,
Appellate Division $167,023
Judge of the Superior Court,
Assignment Judge $163,404
Judge of the Superior Court;
Judge of the Tax Court $157,000]
Annual salaries of justices and judges beginning on January 1, [2009 and thereafter] 2016 shall be:
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court [$192,795] $197,795

The salaries of justices and judges, beginning on January 1, 2019 and annually thereafter, shall be subject to a cost of living adjustment, calculated as the average change in the Consumer Price Index during the preceding calendar year for all urban consumers, not seasonally adjusted for all items, in the metropolitan statistical areas that encompass New Jersey, as reported by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill would increase the salaries of all justices of the Supreme Court, and judges of both the Superior Court and Tax Court. All justices' and judges' salaries would be annually increased by $5,000 for three consecutive years, beginning on January 1, 2016. Thereafter, beginning on January 1, 2019 and continuing annually, the salaries would be subject to a cost of living adjustment. This adjustment would be calculated as the average change in the Consumer Price Index during the preceding calendar year for all urban consumers, not seasonally adjusted for all items, in the metropolitan statistical areas that encompass New Jersey, as reported by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
