SYNOPSIS
Makes Fiscal Year 2021 supplemental appropriation of $1,500,000 to BPU for certain broadband telecommunications service subscriber assistance.

A Supplement to "An Act making appropriations for the support of the State Government and the several public purposes for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021 and regulating the disbursement thereof," approved September 29, 2020 (P.L.2020, c.97).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. In addition to the amounts appropriated under P.L.2020, c.97, the annual State appropriations act for Fiscal Year 2021, there is appropriated from the General Fund the following sum for the purpose specified:

Of the amount herein appropriated for use by the Office of Cable Television and Telecommunications in the Board of Public Utilities, $1,500,000 shall be used to reimburse up to 100 percent of subscription costs related to the provision of broadband telecommunications service to resident households with: a student whose parent or guardian is a New Jersey Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipient; a disabled person; or a low-income senior citizen who is a specified low-income Medicare beneficiary. Broadband telecommunications service subscribers whose households meet the above conditions may submit an application to the office, in a form and manner determined by the office, for reimbursement.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill supplements the FY 2021 appropriations act by appropriation $1.5 million from the General Fund for use by the Office of Cable Television and Telecommunications (office) in the Board of Public Utilities to reimburse up to 100 percent of the subscription costs related to the provision of broadband telecommunications service to resident households with: a student whose parent or guardian is a New Jersey Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipient; a disabled person; or a low-income senior who is a specified low-income Medicare beneficiary. Broadband telecommunications service subscribers whose households meet the above conditions may submit an application to the office, in a form and manner determined by the office, for reimbursement.
