     Requires DOH to disseminate information on seizure first-aid to employers.

An Act concerning seizures in the workplace and supplementing Title 26 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  As used in this section:

     "Seizure first aid" means non-medical procedures to respond, attend, and provide comfort and safety to a person suffering from a primary generalized tonic-clonic seizure or complex partial seizure. 

     b.    The Department of Health shall make available on its Internet website information for employers on rendering seizure first aid to an individual who has suffered a seizure in the workplace.  The Department of Health shall additionally disseminate such information to employers in a manner to be determined by the Commissioner of Health.

     c.     An employer in this State may provide the information disseminated by the department, pursuant to subsection a. of this section, to employees and post the information in a prominent place within the employer's workplace.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Department of Health (department) to disseminate information on seizure first aid to employers.

     The bill defines "seizure first aid" to mean non-medical procedures to respond, attend, and provide comfort and safety to a person suffering from a primary generalized tonic-clonic seizure or complex partial seizure. 

     Under the bill, the department is to make available on its Internet website information for employers on rendering seizure first aid to an individual who has suffered a seizure in the workplace.  The department is to also disseminate such information to employers in a manner to be determined by the Commissioner of Health.

     An employer in this State may provide the information disseminated by the department to employees and post the information in a prominent place within the employer's workplace.
