     Requires Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center to study potential rail passenger service ridership along New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway right-of-way; appropriates $50,000.

An Act requiring the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center to study potential rail passenger service ridership along the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway right-of-way and making an appropriation.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, shall study the potential number of daily riders that may utilize any rail passenger service that may be provided along the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway right-of-way between the Borough of Hawthorne, Passaic County to the light rail station at Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen, Hudson County.

 

     2.    The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center shall submit a report of its findings pursuant to section 1 of P.L.    , c.    (pending before the Legislature as this bill) to the Governor, and the Legislature pursuant to section 2 of P.L.1991, c.164 (C.52:14-19.1), within 12 months of the effective date of P.L.    , c.    (pending before the Legislature as this bill). 

 

     3.    There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, the sum of $50,000 to effectuate the provisions of P.L.    , c.    (pending before the Legislature as this bill).

 

     4.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (center) at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey to study the potential number of daily riders that may utilize any rail passenger service that may be provided along the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway right-of-way between the Borough of Hawthorne to the light rail station at Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen.  The center is to report its findings to the Governor and Legislature within 12 months of the effective date of the bill.  The bill appropriates $50,000 from the General Fund for the study.
