SYNOPSIS

     "The Truth In Tolling Act"; requires New Jersey Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority to display toll amount paid when EZ-Pass user passes through toll collection point.

An Act requiring toll road authorities to display the toll amount paid in EZ-Pass toll lanes, and supplementing P.L.1948, c.454 (C.27:23-1 et seq.) and P.L.1991, c.252 (C.27:25A-1 et seq.).

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.      Sections 1 and 2 of P.L.    , c.    (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill) shall be known and may be cited as  "The Truth in the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway Tolling Act."

 

     2.    Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority shall make visible on an electronic display at the collection points on every EZ-Pass toll lane of the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway the toll amount paid by an EZ-Pass user when passing through a collection point; provided, however, that this requirement shall not apply to points at which tolls are collected for passage over bridges, through tunnels, or through high speed gantries.

 

     3.  Sections 3 and 4 of P.L.    , c.    (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill) shall be known and may be cited as "The Truth in the Atlantic City Expressway Tolling Act."

 

     4.  Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, the South Jersey Transportation Authority shall make visible on an electronic display at the collection points on every EZ-Pass toll lane of the Atlantic City Expressway  the toll amount paid by an EZ-Pass  user when passing through a collection point; provided, however, that this requirement shall not apply to points at which tolls are collected for passage over bridges, through tunnels, or through high speed gantries.

    

     5.  This act shall take effect immediately, but the provisions of P.L.    , c.   (C.      ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill) shall not be construed as affecting terms of any contract or agreement in effect as of the effective date of this act.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority to make visible, on an electronic display at the collection points on every E-ZPass toll lane of the State's three toll roads, the toll amount paid by an E-ZPass user when passing through a collection point.  This requirement does not apply to points at which tolls are collected for passage over bridges, through tunnels, or through high speed gantries.
