CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

A Concurrent Resolution respectfully urging the United States Congress to advance the construction of an Aviation Research and Technology Park in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.

Whereas, The United States' aviation system is being challenged to meet demands for enhanced safety and security and for increased capacity for passengers and cargo; and

Whereas, The 108th Congress passed the "VISION 100 - Century of Aviation Reauthorization Act," P.L.108-176 ("the Act"), which took the critical first step to meet these demands by establishing the Next Generation Air Transportation System ("NextGen Air Transportation System") Initiative, which will address the needs of civil aviation, national defense, and homeland security; and

Whereas, The Act calls for the Secretary of Transportation to establish the NextGen Air Transportation System Joint Planning and Development Office within the Federal Aviation Administration ("FAA") to create and carry out an integrated plan for a NextGen Air Transportation System; and

Whereas, The NextGen Air Transportation System Joint Planning and Development Office is proposing to build an Aviation Research and Technology Park at the FAA's William J. Hughes Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; and

Whereas, The proposed Aviation Research and Technology Park will foster the research and development of technologies necessary for the realization of the NextGen Air Transportation System and be a focal point for the transformation of today's national aviation system into tomorrow's global air transportation system; and

Whereas, The need to improve the safety and security of air travel is urgent, and increased capacity for passenger and cargo air transportation is vital to the national economy; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey (the General Assembly Senate concurring):

     1.  The Congress of the United States is respectfully urged to take all steps necessary to advance the construction of  an Aviation Research and Technology Park in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.
