SYNOPSIS
Recognizes Camp Evans for its designation as State and National Historic District and supporting its preservation as World War II living memorial.

A Concurrent Resolution recognizing Camp Evans for its designation as a State and National Historic District and supporting its preservation as a World War II living memorial.
Whereas, It is fitting and proper to honor those persons who sacrificed to save democracy and preserve our freedoms during World War II; and
Whereas, Camp Evans in Wall, New Jersey, having played a significant role in the history of America through the development of advanced communications and radar systems, is now designated as a State and National Historic District and flourishes in its educational mission to improve public understanding of science, technology and science history; and
Whereas, The Camp Evans story begins with the Marconi Period (1912-1925) when the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company built a station at Belmar, New Jersey, and includes the Navy Period (1917-1919) during WWI when the Navy took over Camp Evans and dispatched some of the most important communications of the war from Belmar Station, whereby United States Navy officers, civilian scientists, engineers, and allied personnel stationed at and associated with Camp Evans distinguished themselves for their contribution to the radar program of the United States of America; and
Whereas, Camp Evans housed the WWII Radar Laboratory where United States Army Signal Corps Officers helped win WWII with radar devices built at Camp Evans, and equipment designed, tested, upgraded and engineered by Camp Evans personnel were used in every major theater of battle by the Allied nations; and
Whereas, Radar equipment at Camp Evans demonstrated for the first time in the history of mankind that it was possible to reach beyond the bounds of Earth, with an experiment utilizing the "Diana" radar at Camp Evans that focused a beam of high frequency energy at the moon, traveling at the speed of light and returning the radio wave just two and a half seconds later, an experiment that ushered in the development of satellite communications and missile guidance systems; and
Whereas, The State of New Jersey and the National Park Service have designated a portion of Camp Evans as a State and National Historic District to be preserved as a historic monument and known as the Camp Evans Historic District, Marconi Belmar Station, US Army Sign Corps Radar Laboratory; and
Whereas, Camp Evans will be available to families and school groups to help improve the public's understanding of science and history through an interactive learning center focused on communication pioneers of the wireless, WWI, WWII, space exploration, and the cold war; now, therefore
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey (the General Assembly concurring):
1. The Legislature of the State of New Jersey recognizes Camp Evans as a State and National Historic District and supports its preservation as a World War II living memorial.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary thereof, and signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk thereof, shall be transmitted to the Governor of this State, to the director of Camp Evans, to the Board of Freeholders of Monmouth County, and to the Township Committee of the Township of Wall, Monmouth County, New Jersey.
