SYNOPSIS
Designates November of each year as "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month in New Jersey."

A Joint Resolution designating November of each year as "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month in New Jersey."
Whereas, Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy, is a disorder of a portion of the body, usually starting in a limb, which manifests as extreme pain, swelling, limited range of motion, and changes to the skin and bones; and
Whereas, CRPS usually manifests itself following an injury and is believed to be caused by damage to, or malfunction of, the peripheral and central nervous systems; and
Whereas, The central nervous system is composed of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system involves nerve signaling from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body; and
Whereas, CRPS is characterized by prolonged or excessive pain and changes in skin color, temperature, and swelling in affected areas; and
Whereas, CRPS symptoms vary in severity and duration, as symptoms may be characterized as minor and temporary, or severe, resulting in permanent disability; and
Whereas, For many who suffer with CRPS, the color "orange" symbolizes the burning sensation caused by CRPS; and
Whereas, It is important for the State of New Jersey to recognize those who suffer with CPRS and to raise awareness for those individuals with orange ribbons and appropriate activities and programs; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. November of each year is designated as "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month in New Jersey."
2. The Governor may annually issue a proclamation recognizing November of each year as "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month in New Jersey" and call upon public officials and the residents of the State of New Jersey to observe the month with appropriate activities and programs, including the distribution of orange ribbons.
3. This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This joint resolution designates November of each year as "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month in New Jersey." Complex regional pain syndrome, also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy, is a disorder of a portion of the body, usually starting in a limb, which manifests as extreme pain, swelling, limited range of motion, and changes to the skin and bones. The resolution provides that the Governor may annually issue a proclamation recognizing November of each year as "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month in New Jersey" and call upon public officials and the residents of the State of New Jersey to observe the month with appropriate activities and programs, including the distribution of orange ribbons. The color "orange" symbolizes the burning sensation caused by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
