SYNOPSIS

Honors military service members from New Jersey killed while fighting Nazism during World War II.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

A Senate Resolution honoring military service members from New Jersey killed in the line of duty while fighting Nazism during the Second World War.

Whereas, The National Socialist ideology exemplified by Adolph Hitler and his Nazi Party in Germany during the 1930s' and 1940s' plunged the world into a dark and horrible period of war, genocide and bloodshed that culminated in the Second World War; and

Whereas, Men and women from the United States and many other nations were called upon to set aside their everyday lives and concerns to enter military service to fight and destroy a totalitarian regime that had as its goal world domination and enslavement; and

Whereas, It is because of the ceaseless efforts of these heroic individuals, named appropriately by many "the greatest generation," that we now live in a country that is free, prosperous and the master of its destiny in today's complex world; and

Whereas, Men and women from New Jersey were a crucial part of this nation's decisive contribution to the complete destruction of Hitler's genocidal and totalitarian regime; and

Whereas, An estimated 560,000 New Jerseyans served in the armed forces of the United States during the Second World War and more than 30,000 of those individuals made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives to preserve our beloved country and our cherished freedoms; and

Whereas, It is fitting and proper that this House remembers those brave individuals from this State who died fighting for this country during the Second World War, and that it honors the approximately 55,400 veterans of the war who still live in New Jersey; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

     1. This House honors the military service members from New Jersey killed in the line of duty while fighting Nazism during the Second World War.

     2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary thereof, shall be transmitted to the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and to each recognized veterans' organization in the State dedicated to serving and honoring veterans of the Second World War.
