SYNOPSIS
Urges Rutgers University to engage in good faith contract negotiations with faculty and staff.

A Senate Resolution urging Rutgers University to negotiate in good faith with faculty and staff unions.
Whereas, Rutgers University is currently in contract negotiations with unions representing more than 20,000 university workers, including professors, faculty, healthcare professionals, and staff; and
Whereas, The hard-working individuals who comprise the faculty and staff of Rutgers University play a crucial and direct role in making the university such an outstanding and successful institution; and
Whereas, Rutgers' strong national and international reputation for academic and research excellence would not be attainable without the invaluable contributions of its well-deserving faculty and staff; and
Whereas, Good faith and fair contract negotiations that recognize the value of the faculty and staff of Rutgers are essential for the university to continue to attract such high-quality professors and employees, and therefore, such a high-caliber student body; and
Whereas, Rutgers University recently has achieved some important honors, including entering the Big Ten Conference, and will soon celebrate the institution's 250th anniversary; and
Whereas, These proud accomplishments serve to highlight the many successes of the institution and the importance of recognizing and respecting the faculty and staff who make the university's achievements possible; and
Whereas, The leadership of Rutgers University should ensure that adequate resources continue to be spent on the university's core mission of teaching, cutting-edge research, and public service; on reducing student costs and debt; and on attracting and retaining high-quality workers through fair contracts; and
Whereas, Good faith and fair negotiations with the faculty and staff of Rutgers University are necessary to ensure that these hard-working individuals receive the contracts and benefits that they have earned and deserve; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House urges the leadership of Rutgers University to engage in good-faith negotiations with the Rutgers' faculty and staff, in order to ensure that these hard-working individuals receive the contracts and benefits that they deserve.
2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the president of Rutgers University, each member of the Board of Governors of Rutgers University, and each member of the Board of Trustees of Rutgers University.

This resolution urges the leadership of Rutgers University to engage in good-faith negotiations with the Rutgers' faculty and staff, thereby ensuring that these hard-working individuals receive the contracts and benefits that they deserve.
Rutgers University is currently in labor negotiations with unions representing more than 20,000 university workers, including professors, faculty, healthcare professionals, and staff. These workers play a crucial role in the university's longstanding history of excellence, contributing to the institution's many achievements and outstanding reputation on the national and international levels. Fair and good faith contract negotiations that recognize the value of the university's faculty and staff are essential for the university to continue to attract such high-quality professors and employees, and therefore, such a high-caliber student body.
