A Senate Resolution strongly urging local police, fire, and emergency service departments to respectfully sound their sirens at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day.

Whereas, Observed on the last Monday in May of each year, Memorial Day commemorates and honors the memories of individuals who made sacrifices in order to protect a nation based on freedom of choice, many of whom also gave their lives defending the United States and the concept of freedom throughout the world; and

Whereas, The White House Commission on Remembrance was founded in order to ensure that the nation remembers and recognizes the sacrifices of all America's fallen from the Revolutionary War to the present, as well as those who served and those who continue to serve our great nation; and

Whereas, This Commission creates awareness for "The National Moment of Remembrance," which was established by Congress and asks Americans to pause in an act of national unity at 3 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day; and

Whereas, "The National Moment of Remembrance" gives Americans the opportunity to participate in an act of national unity and to demonstrate gratitude and respect for those who died for freedom since the founding of our Nation; and

Whereas, In an effort to commemorate the memory of those who died while defending our country and to participate in "The National Moment of Remembrance," this resolution strongly urges local police, fire, and emergency service departments to respectfully sound their sirens at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:
