SYNOPSIS

Urges Supreme Court to establish payment kiosks for court-ordered obligations.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

Introduced Pending Technical Review by Legislative Counsel.

A Senate Resolution urging the courts to utilize additional convenient payment options.

Whereas, Payment kiosk technology is available in New Jersey as an alternative payment option for child support payments not made through payroll withholdings; and

Whereas, An individual can, at present, go online or to specific locations in the community, including drug stores and shopping centers, to use this technology; and

Whereas, The use of payment kiosks, with secure up to date technology could significantly increase the accessibility of payment venues for fines, fees and other court-ordered assessments for persons with limited internet access or access to municipal buildings; and

Whereas, Whether existing kiosk payment venues are modified to include additional types of payments, or additional venues, exclusively dedicated to court assessments are considered, such as at joint or shared municipal court facilities, this technology should increasingly be available for processing court-ordered assessments; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    The Senate respectfully urges the New Jersey Supreme Court to establish payment kiosks, similar to the payment kiosks available through the New Jersey Child Support program for the processing of court-ordered assessments.

     2.    Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Administrative Director of the Courts and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of State of New Jersey.
