SYNOPSIS
Honors United States Merchant Marine service.

A Senate Resolution honoring the service of the United States Merchant Marine.
Whereas, The United States Merchant Marine has faithfully served our country in times of war and peace, and the contributions of the United States Merchant Marine in times of war and peace should never be forgotten and should be made known to all Americans; and
Whereas, The United State Merchant Marine is the fleet of ships which carries imports and exports during peacetime and becomes a naval auxiliary during wartime to deliver troops and war material; and
Whereas, Every war has its share of unsung heroes, those individuals who risk their lives daily in the service of their country, whose exploits are seldom heard and yet without their service, the victories might not have been possible; and
Whereas, In times of war, the Merchant Marine carries critical supplies, equipment, and personnel, providing essential support to our Armed Forces and helping to advance the cause of freedom; and
Whereas, Today, merchant mariners support operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, and their devotion to duty is a tribute to the generations of men and women who have served our Nation with courage and determination in the conflicts in America's history; and
Whereas, During times of peace, the Merchant Marine helps ensure our economic security by keeping the oceans open to trade; and
Whereas, The United States Merchant Marine has helped America become a great maritime power by playing a vital role in helping meet our country's economic and national security needs; and
Whereas, Ships operated by merchant mariners transport goods across our Nation's waterways and on the high seas around the world to connect American businesses and consumers with valuable foreign markets and commodities; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:
1. The Senate of New Jersey honors the United States Merchant Marine and the mariners who sail the high seas, support those on the front lines of the war on terror, and promote commerce around the world.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary thereof, shall be transmitted to the Governor of this State, the President of the United States, to each member of New Jersey's Congressional delegation, and the Superintendent of the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
STATEMENT
This resolution honors the United States Merchant Marine and the mariners who are the unsung heroes answering the call to serve when our Nation needs them most. In times of war and peace, these brave patriots carry critical supplies, equipment, and personnel, providing essential support to our Armed Forces and helping to advance the cause of freedom, and strengthen our economy by transporting American goods across the oceans, facilitating commerce and advancing trade.
