        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to parental notifica-
          tion of newborn DNA storage
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding  a  new  section
     2  2500-l to read as follows:
     3    §  2500-l.  Parental consent for newborn DNA storage.  Notwithstanding
     4  any other provision of law, rule or regulation to the contrary, no test,
     5  DNA, blood spot or other genetic information shall be retained with  the
     6  infant's   identifying   information   for   any   period   of  time  or
     7  distributed/sent to any lab for any purpose other than what is necessary
     8  for the evaluation or interpretation of the  testing  for  the  required
     9  diseases  and  conditions  without the written consent from the infant's
    10  parents.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
