STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 1661 2019-2020 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY January 16, 2019 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. ABINANTI -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to requiring signage alerting motorists of red light cameras; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new 2 section 1111-f to read as follows: 3 § 1111-f. Red light camera signage required. Any city or county oper- 4 ating a demonstration program that imposes monetary liability on the 5 owner of a vehicle for the failure of an operator thereof to comply with 6 traffic-control indications in such city or county pursuant to this 7 article shall install and maintain signage in each direction of every 8 intersection where a traffic-control signal photo violation-monitoring 9 device is in operation. Such signage shall advise that a traffic-control 10 signal photo violation-monitoring device is operating at such inter- 11 section, and shall be in accordance with the state manual and specifica- 12 tions for a uniform system of traffic control devices as provided in 13 section sixteen hundred eighty of this chapter. For the purposes of this 14 section, the term "traffic-control signal photo violation-monitoring 15 device" shall mean a vehicle sensor installed to work in conjunction 16 with a traffic-control signal which automatically produces two or more 17 photographs, two or more microphotographs, a videotape or other recorded 18 images of each vehicle at the time it is used or operated in violation 19 of subdivision (d) of section eleven hundred eleven of this article. 20 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after 21 it shall have become a law and shall expire December 1, 2021 when upon 22 such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed. Effective 23 immediately, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regu- 24 lation necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective 25 date are authorized to be made and completed on or before such date.
