       AN ACT to amend the vehicle and  traffic  law,  in  relation  to  custom
         plates for veterans
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is  amended  by  adding  a  new
    2  section 404-x to read as follows:
    3    S  404-X.  CUSTOM PLATES FOR VETERANS, WAIVER OF FEE.  NOTWITHSTANDING
    4  ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, THE TWENTY-EIGHT DOLLAR  FEE
    5  FOR  CUSTOM PLATES IS HEREBY WAIVED IN THE CASE OF AN APPLICATION THERE-
    6  FOR BY ANY VETERAN OF SERVICE IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED  STATES.
    7  THIS  WAIVER  APPLIES  ONLY TO THE FEE FOR THE CUSTOM PLATE AND DOES NOT
    8  APPLY TO THE VETERAN CUSTOM PLATE WITH VANITY LETTERING.
    9    S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of  May  next  succeeding
   10  the date on which it shall have become a law.
