STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 6381 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY April 5, 2023 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. WEPRIN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring high schools to carry and have a trained employee to administer opioid antagonists The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 922 of the education law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 3 to read as follows: 3 3. Notwithstanding any other law, all high schools shall acquire and 4 possess an opioid antagonist for emergency treatment of a person appear- 5 ing to experience an opioid-related overdose. High schools shall desig- 6 nate at least one employee who has completed a training course in the 7 use of opioid antagonists approved under section three thousand three 8 hundred nine of the public health law to be responsible for the storage, 9 maintenance, control, and general oversight of the opioid antagonist. 10 There shall be a designated employee on school grounds during all school 11 hours and after school activities to administer such opioid antagonists. 12 § 2.
