CLARK, JACOBSON, FAHY, EPSTEIN, SEAWRIGHT, WEPRIN, SHIMSKY, LAVINE, SILLITTI, O'DONNELL -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education -- recommitted to the Committee on Education in accordance with Assembly Rule 3, sec. 2 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring an education campaign about the 9-8-8 suicide and crisis lifeline and the crisis text line The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Short title. This act shall be known and may be cited as 2 the "student lifeline act". 3 § 2. The education law is amended by adding a new section 207-b to 4 read as follows: 5 § 207-b. Crisis resources. Each degree-granting institution of higher 6 education shall establish an education campaign to educate students, 7 faculty, and staff about the 9-8-8 suicide and crisis lifeline and the 8 crisis text line. Such education campaign shall include, but not be 9 limited to: 10 1. resources describing when to utilize the 9-8-8 suicide and crisis 11 lifeline and the crisis text line; and 12 2. contact information for such services on student identification 13 cards, or the annual distribution of contact information for such 14 services at institutions that do not issue student identification cards. 15 § 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025 and shall apply to 16 student identification cards that are issued, modified, altered or 17 amended on or after such date.
