STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 7060--A 2021-2022 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY April 21, 2021 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. JEAN-PIERRE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Libraries and Education Technology -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to increasing the percentage of total funds appropriated to a library system that may be used to support projects receiving state aid in excess of seventy-five percent The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 273-a of the education law, as 2 amended by chapter 381 of the laws of 2019, is amended to read as 3 follows: 4 4. In approving any application that would receive state aid beyond 5 seventy-five percent of the total project approved costs, the board of 6 trustees of the library system shall give particular attention to 7 addressing the library service needs of economically distressed communi- 8 ties as provided for in paragraph f of subdivision two of this section. 9 No more than [ten] fifty percent of the total funds appropriated to a 10 library system in subdivision six of this section may be used to support 11 the total costs for projects that would receive state aid beyond seven- 12 ty-five percent of the total project approved costs. 13 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately, provided, however, that 14 the amendments to subdivision 4 of section 273-a of the education law 15 made by section one of this act shall not affect the expiration of such 16 section and shall be deemed expired therewith.
