       AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to the duration of limit-
         ed permits for metal health practitioners
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section  1.  Subdivision  2  of  section 8409 of the education law, as
    2  amended by chapter 210 of the laws  of  2004,  is  amended  to  read  as
    3  follows:
    4    2. Limited permits shall be for [one year, except that limited permits
    5  for  mental  health  counseling  shall  be  for] two years; such limited
    6  permits may be renewed, at the discretion of the department,  for  [one]
    7  UP TO TWO additional ONE year PERIODS.
    8    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
