       AN  ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to examination
         requirements for licensing
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 502 of the vehicle and traffic law
    2  is amended by adding a new paragraph (h) to read as follows:
    3    (H) THE COMMISSIONER SHALL WAIVE THE REQUIREMENT FOR PASSAGE OF A TEST
    4  WITH RESPECT TO THE LAWS RELATING TO TRAFFIC, THE LAWS RELATING TO DRIV-
    5  ING  WHILE  ABILITY IS IMPAIRED AND WHILE INTOXICATED AND THE ABILITY TO
    6  READ AND COMPREHEND TRAFFIC SIGNS AND SYMBOLS, AND THE  REQUIREMENT  FOR
    7  COMPLETION  OF THE COURSE SET FORTH IN PARAGRAPH (A) OF THIS SUBDIVISION
    8  FOR APPLICANTS WHO HOLD A VALID OR RENEWABLE DRIVER'S LICENSE ISSUED  BY
    9  ANY BRANCH OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED SERVICES.
   10    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
