        AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation to directing  the  divi-
          sion  of criminal justice services to notify the appropriate agencies,
          within 48 hours of the receipt of a change of address, or  of  enroll-
          ment,  attendance, employment or residence at an institution of higher
          education by a sex offender
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1. Subdivisions 1, 3 and 4 of section 168-j of the correction
     2  law, subdivision 1 as amended, and subdivisions 3  and  4  as  added  by
     3  chapter 11 of the laws of 2002, are amended to read as follows:
     4    1.  Upon  receipt of a change of address by a sex offender required to
     5  register under this article, but in any event no more  than  forty-eight
     6  hours  after  such  receipt,  the  division  shall  notify the local law
     7  enforcement agency having jurisdiction of the new place of residence and
     8  the local law enforcement agency where the sex offender last resided  of
     9  the new place of residence.
    10    3. The division shall, if the sex offender changes residence to anoth-
    11  er  state,  notify  the  appropriate agency within that state of the new
    12  place of residence within forty-eight hours.
    13    4. Upon receipt of a change in the status of the  enrollment,  attend-
    14  ance, employment or residence at an institution of higher education by a
    15  sex  offender  required to register under this article, but in any event
    16  no more than forty-eight hours after such receipt,  the  division  shall
    17  notify each law enforcement agency having jurisdiction which is affected
    18  by such change.
    19    §  2.  This  act  shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall
    20  have become a law.
