Senate Resolution No. 161 BY: Senator GRIFFO CONGRATULATING Earl Davis upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 30 years of distinguished service as a photojournalist for WKTV of Utica, New York WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched by the faithful and untiring efforts of those individuals who have helped shape the history of journalism in their area; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Earl Davis upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 30 years of distinguished service as a photojournalist for WKTV, to be celebrated with a party in his honor on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Delmonico's Italian Steakhouse in Utica, New York; and WHEREAS, As a photojournalist at WKTV for over three decades, Earl Davis has enjoyed meeting new people from all walks of life; and WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure, Earl Davis has captured countless images of worthy events; his most memorable experience was traveling to Washington D.C. with a group of World War II veterans from Herkimer County to visit the memorial built in their honor; and WHEREAS, Earl Davis has been the proud recipient of numerous awards and accolades from state and regional journalism organizations for his role as a photojournalist, including New York State Associated Press and New York State Broadcasters Association Awards; and WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his community, Earl Davis has volunteered for many years with the Boilermaker Road Race, serving as Sound Communications Director; and WHEREAS, Originally from Ogdensburg, New York, Earl Davis enjoys spending time with his wife, Kathy, and their dog, Edna; he also enjoys biking, kayaking, hiking and skiing; and WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demonstrated by Earl Davis over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; and WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to those individuals who have diligently and consistently, year after year, captured the history of their communities and brought local news and news of the larger world to their audience; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Earl Davis upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 30 years of distinguished service as a photojournalist for WKTV of Utica, New York; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Earl Davis.
