Senate Resolution No. 270 BY: Senator GRIFFO CONGRATULATING Captain Bryan Coromato upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 20 years of distinguished service to the Utica Police Department WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor those distinguished officers who would devote themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication, command the respect and admiration of their community for their exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Captain Bryan Coromato upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 20 years of service to the Utica Police Department; and WHEREAS, Bryan Coromato began his long and esteemed career with the Department as a Patrolman; he then worked in the Community Policing Unit where he and his fellow officers were relentless in their pursuit of the worst violent offenders in Utica; and WHEREAS, As a Public Information Officer, Bryan Coromato oversaw some of the Department's most high-profile cases, and successfully built a productive relationship with both the media and public; and WHEREAS, Since 2016, Captain Bryan Coromato has been involved in the executive command of the Criminal Investigations Division, and upon his promotion to Captain in June of 2020, has overseen the entire division which consists of over 40 supervisors and investigators in numerous specialized units; and WHEREAS, In this capacity, Captain Bryan Coromato was part of the leadership that instituted the Major Crimes Unit; prior to the creation of this unit, the homicide solve rate in Utica hovered lower than 40%, since its inception the solve rate is almost 90%; and WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Captain Bryan Coromato rendered faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Utica Police Department, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and WHEREAS, Captain Bryan Coromato served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his official acts; he was one of a select few who presided over the Thomas Lindsey Memorial Foundation, which has provided significant funds for Oneida County youth; and WHEREAS, In December of 2022, Captain Bryan Coromato graduated from the FBI National Academy Session 284, a prestigious 10-week class which is hosted by the FBI and accepts only the top law enforcement professionals from around the world; and WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from the Utica Police Department, Captain Bryan Coromato accepted an Associate Director position at Colgate University; and WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Captain Bryan Coromato truly served the residents of the City of Utica with compassion, integrity, and fairness, attributes which will forever serve as an example for his fellow officers; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Captain Bryan Coromato upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 20 years of distinguished service to the Utica Police Department, and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Captain Bryan Coromato.
