Senate Resolution No. 1544

        COMMENDING  former Senator John J. Bonacic for his
        illustrious service as a dedicated political  leader
        and  strong  advocate for the people of the State of
        New York

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  and
commend those individuals of distinguished purpose whose lives have been
committed to public service and the pursuit of excellence in the conduct
of  the  legislative process in this noble Empire State; John J. Bonacic
is one such individual; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commend former Senator John J. Bonacic for his illustrious service as  a
dedicated  political  leader  and  strong advocate for the people of the
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, Prior to serving the State of New York, John J. Bonacic was
elected as the Assistant District Attorney in Orange County and  to  the
Town  of  Mount  Hope  Planning Board; from 1973 to 1989, he was also an
Orange County Legislator; and

  WHEREAS,   Senator   John   J.   Bonacic   then   represented    the
Middletown-area  residents  of  the 42nd Senate District from 1998 until
2018; he first served as a New York State Assemblyman for  eight  years,
beginning in 1990; and

  WHEREAS,  As  a New York State Senator, John J. Bonacic's priorities
included healthcare, property tax relief, and housing; he served as  the
Deputy  Republican  Conference  Leader  for  state/federal relations and
formerly served as Deputy Republican Whip;  furthermore,  he  fought  to
keep  hospitals  open,  successfully negotiating to keep two open within
his district; and

  WHEREAS, Senator John J. Bonacic was named Chairman  of  the  Senate
Judiciary  Committee  and  was  responsible  for  the  oversight  of the
Governor's Judicial Nominations (2011); and

  WHEREAS, John J. Bonacic resides in Mount Hope, New York,  with  his
wife,  Pat,  and together they are the proud parents of two children and
the loving grandparents of three grandchildren; and

  WHEREAS,  Every  citizen  in  New  York  State  has  most  certainly
benefited, in one way or another, from the deep dedication, intelligence
and  commitment  former Senator John J. Bonacic brought to his work as a
legislator, loyal friend, and trusted advisor; and

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to  reflect  upon
those outstanding individuals who have made everlasting contributions on
behalf  of their fellow man and have truly left their mark on this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
recognize and applaud the many accomplishments of former Senator John J.
Bonacic,  and  to  wish  him well in all his future endeavors; and be it
further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to former New York State Senator John J. Bonacic.
