Senate Resolution No. 2542

        COMMENDING  Louis  J. Marcelle, Sr. and Lucille A.
        Marcelle posthumously upon  the  occasion  of  their
        designation  as  recipients  of a Liberty Medal, the
        highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
        York State Senate

  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this esteemed Body; and

  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Louis J.
Marcelle, Sr. and Lucille A. Marcelle posthumously upon the occasion  of
their  designation  as  recipients of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and

  WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established  by
Resolution  and  is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf  of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

  WHEREAS,  Born  on March 12, 1923, Louis Marcelle, Sr. was raised in
Mechanicville, New York by his parents Isidora and Columbia; in 1941, he
graduated from Mechanicville High School; and

  WHEREAS, Upon graduating, Louis  Marcelle,  Sr.  joined  the  United
States Army on January 6, 1943; and

  WHEREAS, Louis Marcelle, Sr. served with the 3rd Army 635th Ordnance
Ammunition  Company,  3rd Army Headquarters Detachment; he was placed in
the European Theater and Germany; and

  WHEREAS, For his courageous service at  the  rank  of  Master  Sgt.,
Louis  Marcelle,  Sr.  was  awarded  the European African Middle Eastern
Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal; and

  WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on May 2, 1946,
Louis  Marcelle,  Sr.  began  his  career  as  the  Vice  President  and
Superintendent  of  Highway  and  Bridge  Construction  at  D.A. Collins
Construction Co. for over 35 years; and

  WHEREAS, Active in his community, served as  the  President  of  the
Carpenters  Union  No. 1576, a member of the Holy Name Society, the Sons
of Italy, and the Peter Purcell ITAM Post 21, and the Marcelle-Nolan DAV
Chapter 158; and

  WHEREAS, Born on August 13, 1919, Lucille  Marcelle  was  raised  in
Mechanicville, New York by her parents Giovanni and Maria; she graduated
from Mechanicville Highschool and went on to earn her RN degree from St.
Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1940; and

  WHEREAS,  Using  her  skills  as  an  RN to help our Nation, Lucille
Marcelle entered the United States Army on February 15, 1944; and


  WHEREAS,  Lucille Marcelle served at the 232nd General Hospital as a
Nurse; she was placed in the Pacific Theater, at Hawaii, Iwo Jima, Guam,
and Saipan; and

  WHEREAS, Rising through the ranks, Lucille Marcelle earned the  rank
of   Captain;   for   her   remarkable  efforts,  she  was  awarded  the
Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal; and

  WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her military service on February 21,
1946, Lucille Marcelle worked  as  a  substitute  school  nurse  in  the
Mechanicville public school systems; and

  WHEREAS,  Devoted to her community, Lucille Marcelle was a member of
the Church of Assumption, where she taught Catechism Classes, and was  a
part of the Rosery Alter Society; and

  WHEREAS,  Marrying  on  October  1,  1946,  Louis  Marcelle, Sr. and
Lucille Marcelle had three sons, Louis, Michael, and H. John; and

  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must  recognize
that  no  greater  debt  is  owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to  be  missing
in action; and

  WHEREAS,  Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
Louis Marcelle, Sr. and Lucille Marcelle have  demonstrated  their  love
for  their  country  and  merits forevermore the highest respect of this
State and Nation; and

  WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be  recognized,  commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Louis J. Marcelle, Sr. and Lucille A. Marcelle posthumously upon
the occasion of their designation as recipients of a Liberty Medal,  the
highest  honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate;
and be it further

  RESOLVED, That copies of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to  the  family  of  Louis  J. Marcelle, Sr. and Lucille A.
Marcelle.
