Assembly Resolution No. 735 BY: M. of A. Buttenschon HONORING Sister Virginia Marie Dunn posthumously upon the occasion of her induction into the Catholic School Hall of Fame by the Catholic Schools Association of Rome WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts of those individuals within the State of New York who gave of their time and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim to benefit the community at large; and WHEREAS, Sister Virginia Marie Dunn not only gave of her time and energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently is designated for special honor; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sister Virginia Marie Dunn posthumously upon the occasion of her induction into the Catholic School Hall of Fame by the Catholic Schools Association of Rome, to be presented to her family during its 3rd Annual Induction Ceremony on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Teugega Country Club, Rome, New York; and WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion recognizes persons influential to local Catholic schools and the positive influence these individuals have had on their communities; Sister Virginia Marie Dunn was one such individual; and WHEREAS, Sister Virginia Marie Dunn was the first of nine children born to James A. and Ellen Haley Dunn, and a lifelong resident of Rome; her many gifts, faith formation and academic excellence were nurtured within her loving family and supported by the Faith Communities and Catholic education at St. Mary's School and the Academy of the Holy Names; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Sister Virginia Marie Dunn shared many happy memories about growing up in Rome; she enjoyed school activities, friendship of classmates, and hanging out with friends waiting for an autograph from one of the players on the Rome Senators Baseball Team; and WHEREAS, As a Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, this accomplished woman was a forerunner in ministries and innovative endeavors related to Catholic education; her expertise, skill, wisdom and insight made her an invaluable and well-respected Teacher, Principal, Superintendent of Schools, member on local School Boards and on international Planning Committees; and WHEREAS, Her compassion and faith, love and dedication, kindness and joy touched the lives of countless students, parents, colleagues and women in her religious community; and WHEREAS, Sister Virginia Marie Dunn brought with her a legacy of deep faith, outstanding leadership, and loving service to her religious community and to the ministry of Catholic education; above all, she brought honor and glory to the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary; and WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Sister Virginia Marie Dunn posthumously upon the occasion of her induction into the Catholic School Hall of Fame by the Catholic Schools Association of Rome; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the family of Sister Virginia Marie Dunn.
