Assembly Resolution No. 868 BY: M. of A. Friend CONGRATULATING Caden Bellis upon the occasion of capturing the 138-pound Division II wrestling title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships on February 25, 2023 WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Caden Bellis upon the occasion of capturing the 138-pound Division II wrestling title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York; and WHEREAS, In front of a capacity crowd and a fan base of family, friends and teammates, Caden Bellis defeated his opponent from Honeoye Falls-Lima High School in a commanding 6-1 victory to win his first New York State title; and WHEREAS, In addition, Caden Bellis and his teammate, Ousmane Duncanson, shared the coveted The Sports Report Wrestler of the Year honors; and WHEREAS, A standout wrestler for the Tioga Tigers, Caden Bellis ended his season with an outstanding overall record of 33-2; after suffering a broken bone in the semifinals of the Southern Tier Memorial on January 13, 2023, and subsequently, sitting out for 15 days, he went 4-0, including three falls and a major decision at the New York State Duals, then went 10-0 in the individual postseason, with seven pins and a major decision; and WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Kris Harrington and his expert coaching staff worked hard to hone the skills of this champion, teaching this outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off the mat; and WHEREAS, Caden Bellis has clearly utilized dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Caden Bellis upon the occasion of capturing the 138-pound Division II wrestling title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships; and be it further RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Caden Bellis and Head Coach Kris Harrington.
