Assembly Resolution No. 2028 BY: M. of A. Sayegh MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim April 17, 2024, as Syrian-American Heritage Day in the State of New York WHEREAS, Syrian-Americans continue to make innumerable and immense contributions to the wealth and cultural heritage of our great State of New York; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim April 17, 2024, as Syrian-American Heritage Day, in conjunction with 78th Anniversary of Syria's independence; and WHEREAS, April 17th holds historical significance as Syrian-American Heritage Day, commemorating the rich heritage, traditions and achievements of Syrian-Americans, many of whom initially settled and established thriving communities in New York State; and WHEREAS, The celebration of Syrian-American Heritage Day provides an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the enduring contributions of Syrian-Americans to the state's cultural mosaic, arts and various sectors; and WHEREAS, Honoring Syrian-American Heritage Day underscores the State's commitment to diversity, inclusivity and the celebration of immigrant contributions to the State's prosperity and cultural richness; and WHEREAS, By recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of Syrian-Americans, this great Empire State reaffirms our commitment to diversity and equal opportunity for all, thereby ensuring a bright future for all New Yorkers and Americans; and now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim April 17, 2024, as Syrian-American Heritage Day in the State of New York; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New York.
