        MEMORIALIZING  Governor  Kathy  Hochul to proclaim
        May 7, 2024, as Police Memorial Day in the State  of
        New York

  WHEREAS,  Police  Memorial  Day  is  a  day of remembrance for those
police officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty; and

  WHEREAS, This is a day to reflect upon  the  selfless  contributions
made  each day by police officers to protect our society and well-being;
and

  WHEREAS, In 2023, fifteen police officers died in  New  York  State;
and

  WHEREAS,  In commemorating May 7, 2024 as Police Memorial Day in New
York State, this Legislative Body honors those officers who  have  given
their  lives  in  the satisfaction of their duties and offers comfort to
the family members and fellow  officers  left  behind;  this  Body  also
recognizes  the loyal servitude by all police officers in New York State
which permits us to thrive in a safe, free, and just society; and

  WHEREAS, As an unending emblem of appreciation of the people of  New
York  State, in 1989, this Legislative Body sanctioned the creation of a
Police Memorial at the State Capitol revering all police officers in New
York State who have  given  their  lives  in  the  line  of  duty;  now,
therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That this Legislative Body pause in deliberations to join
in veneration with Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim  May  7,  2024,  as
Police  Memorial  Day  in  New  York  State, certain that such course of
action mirrors our collective dedication  to  maintain  the  fundamental
nature of freedom which is our American heritage; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  copies  of  this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of  New
York;  to  appropriate officers and members of the police community; and
to the loving survivors of the brave officers who have died in New  York
State.
