Assembly Resolution No. 2315 BY: M. of A. Palmesano COMMEMORATING the 75th Anniversary of the Finger Lakes SPCA WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to those organizations and individuals who would faithfully dedicate themselves to the care and protection of animals; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Finger Lakes SPCA, to be celebrated at their Spring Dinner on Friday, June 7, 2024; and WHEREAS, Formerly known as the Bath Humane Society, the Finger Lakes SPCA was incorporated on May 16, 1949, conjoining the existing Humane Societies in the cities of Hornell and Corning; the Bath Humane Society was renamed to Finger Lakes SPCA in 2000; and WHEREAS, Diligently serving the communities of Steuben County, the Finger Lakes SPCA purchased the former Rumsey's River's Edge Farm and re-opened at their new location in 2017; and WHEREAS, The mission of the Finger Lakes SPCA is to provide temporary shelter to abandoned or abused companion animals and ready them for adoption into new forever homes; averaging 175 to 200 animals in their care, the Finger Lakes SPCA found forever homes for 39 dogs and 207 cats in 2023; and WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 75-year history, Finger Lakes SPCA has served the Greater Finger Lakes area and has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities which it serves; and WHEREAS, The success of the Finger Lakes SPCA is in direct correlation to the efforts of its staff, volunteers, and donors, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Finger Lakes SPCA; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Finger Lakes SPCA.
