STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 1911 2017-2018 Regular Sessions IN SENATE January 11, 2017 ___________ Introduced by Sen. RITCHIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Judiciary AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to exempting residents seventy-five years of age or older from serving on juries The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 509 of the judiciary law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision (c) to read as follows: 3 (c) On the juror qualification questionnaire, the commissioner shall 4 provide the option for those prospective jurors having attained the age 5 of seventy-five to decline participation in the instant case and/or all 6 future cases at the sole discretion of the person to whom the question- 7 naire is mailed. 8 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to legal 9 cases initiated on or after such effective date.
