        Introduced  by Sens. KAMINSKY, BROOKS -- read twice and ordered printed,
          and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Health
        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to 1,4-Dioxane
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1.  The  public health law is amended by adding a new section
     2  1100-b to read as follows:
     3    § 1100-b. 1,4-Dioxane. 1. The commissioner shall conduct a  comprehen-
     4  sive  health  review of the chemical 1,4-Dioxane and establish a maximum
     5  contaminant level for the presence of 1,4-Dioxane in public supplies  of
     6  potable water that is protective of public health.
     7    2.  Such  health  review  and  drinking water standard for 1,4-Dioxane
     8  shall be implemented in accordance with department regulations  and  the
     9  state administrative procedure act and be completed as soon as practica-
    10  ble,  including  implementation  by  emergency rule if determined by the
    11  commissioner as necessary to protect public health.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
