ZELDIN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Local Government AN ACT to authorize Hands Across Long Island, Inc. to retroactively apply for a real property tax exemption for certain property in the census-designated place of Ronkonkoma, town of Brookhaven, county of Suffolk THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, 2 the assessor of the town of Brookhaven is hereby authorized to accept 3 from Hands Across Long Island, Inc., an application or renewal applica- 4 tion for exemption from real property taxes pursuant to section 420-a of 5 the real property tax law for the 2010-2011 assessment rolls, for the 6 parcel owned by such non-profit organization which is located at 756 7 Hawkins Avenue, in the census-designated place of Ronkonkoma in the town 8 of Brookhaven, county of Suffolk, otherwise known as Suffolk county tax 9 map #0200.62000.0300.028000. If accepted, the application or renewal 10 application shall be reviewed as if it had been received on or before 11 the taxable status date established for such rolls. 12 If satisfied that such organization would have otherwise been entitled 13 to such exemption if such organization had filed an application for such 14 exemption by the appropriate taxable status date, the assessor of the 15 town of Brookhaven, upon approval by the town board of the town of 16 Brookhaven, may grant exemption from all taxation with respect to the 17 subject rolls and make appropriate corrections to the subject roll. If 18 the exemption is granted and such organization shall have paid any tax 19 with regard to the subject rolls, the town board may, in its sole 20 discretion, provide for the refund of those taxes paid and cancel taxes, 21 fines, penalties, liens or interest remaining unpaid. 22 S 2.
